“I’m in love with drawing. It runs blood with drawing cells through my veins. My DNA is made of: sketch, pencils and inks, heeheehee. This defines me, drawing is the most important thing in my life. It is my superhero power. The super and details freak AL RIO. Thanks to my good God, my mission here on Earth is drawing.”

I admit, I was feeling a bit “eeeeeh….” about Roy and Kori’s memories, until I read this. This little essay is amazing, and it absolutely makes sense. I love it, and everyone should read it.

The page for Red Hood and the Outlaws that was too much

dcwomenkickingass:

This is what the original page 10 of the comic looked like per the colorist

The original version of Starfire from Red Hood & The Outlaws #1 page 10. They originally wanted a semi-transparent bikini.

Also that final page of Catwoman? I’ve had a few people tell me the first version was far worse.

[insert a long, sad sigh]

[spoilers] a page from outlaws, rewritten

Repost: Kory and the power of sexual healing

dcwomenkickingass:

Last year to celebrate Dick Grayson’s birthday (which according to one calendar is November 11, the same as mine!) I did a series of posts on his relationships with the women in his life — Donna, Barbara and Kory. Given the appearance of Kory in Red Hood and the Outlaws #1, I thought I would repost this one.

In my post yesterday about the Donna and Dick, I said one of the reasons the Wolfman/Perez Titans run was so popular was the relationships. And today I will talk about the other reason. Sex. Unlike the other superhero books that were being put out by DC in the early 1980s, NTT oozes sex. Flip open an issue and you’ll see the characters spend a great deal of time in various stages of undress. Hanging out at pools and wrapped up in post-coital bliss. Meanwhile, Dick’s future love, the pre-crisis Barbara Gordon, who is older, is still holding hands with Jason Bard in the Batman books. And don’t even look at the pre-crisis Trinity, who except for Batman on occasion were still as chaste as can be.

I don’t know. I like this Jason.

I mean, he’s still written as the same Jason (recall his vow to avenge Ducra - emotionally impelled to achieve justice like always hehe) but he seems so much more… “mellowed” out - especially in terms of the way he dresses and carries himself out.

And I read this one argument that said Jason’s acting this way in order to be a better Bruce Wayne in addition to being a better Batman… which I think is an interesting hypothesis to consider. But I think this growth just came naturally to him somewhere between pre-reboot and present continuity. Traveling around the world fighting crime can do shit like that to you haha

I mean look at this suave-ass, sexy motherfucker, sitting down and crossing his legs like he’s some sort of Princess. And who the fuck wears a plain green shirt at the fucking beach? Seriously, Jason are you 40 or something? Hahaha. And it’s just so bizarre and sexy and hilarious and almost fitting at the same time seeing Jason carry himself with this level of elegance and… maturity?? (vague phrase… Lobdell’s silly dialogue aside I guess? haha)

But I guess why I really like it is because it’s so refreshing seeing a Jason who isn’t running around whining and being butthurt about Bruce 98% of the time. Plus, he’s hot.  jk jk I mean the “being-the-better-batman” thing and the aforementioned Bruce Wayne hypothesis shows that his obsession is still there, but at least this new approach on Jason is opening his character to something else…. finally hahaha.

Yes, yes, indeed, look at that suave-ass, sexy motherfucker, sitting down and crossing his legs like he’s some sort of Princess.

I absolutely love the art in RHatO. I think everyone has noticed that Jason’s body language exudes all sorts of self-confidence, ease, and all levels of smexiness, even at times when his dialogue is sub-par.  Even so, I noticed that because of how he is drawn, it feels as though that body language overwrites (or rather, talks louder than) his words at times, i.e., even if he says something kind of dumb, he seems smart doing it. (Don’t get me wrong though. I do like how Lobdell has handled Jason for the most part, especially with Jason’s not-angsting, but it’s not perfect either.) I wonder how much of his portrayal as a completely in control, intelligent, confident man is intentional on Lobdell’s part as the writer, or if this whole new level of hot is purely done by Rocafort’s part. It really shows how the art in a comic book is so connected to the story. Just reading the Jason’s dialogue, I don’t think I would have had the same impression of him as reading the dialogue and watching him “move.” And I can’t help but wonder if RHatO  had gotten a different artist, if we’d all be interpreting Jason’s personality completely differently right now.

Hopefully, we won’t have to find out the answer to that anytime soon, because I absolutely love this art and extra-sexy!Jason that comes with it.
